Welcome to the Poconos, PA!
The
Pocono Mountain region, known as Pennsylvania's playground as early
as 1927, comprises 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, rivers, waterfalls,
and woodlands. The region is located in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania,
and includes Carbon, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties. Each county has
a unique appeal, but all provide retreats into natural splendor. In 1963,
the Pocono Mountain area received the title of Honeymoon Capital of the
World, after one of its properties offered a room with a heart-shaped tub.
Today, the resort spot still hosts throngs of lovebirds. It is also a
prime vacation destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Whitewater
rafting, hiking, fishing, boating, golfing, and skiing are just a few
of the recreational activities that lure vacationers. The cultural attractions
and nightlife rival the area’s outdoor appeal. Guests will find
a custom fit among Poconos hotels, bed and breakfasts, and other accommodations,
no matter what their itineraries entail.
Visiting the Pocono Mountains Area
The
Pocono Mountains area is a year-round resort region that enjoys four distinctly
beautiful seasons. Tourists should base their vacation dates on recreational
activities and scenery that are most enjoyable to them. The average minimum/maximum
temperatures for the area are 34/54 degrees in April, 56/78 degrees in
July, 39/60 degrees in October, and 16/31 in January. Visitors should
not underestimate the astounding beauty of the Pocono Mountain region
in the winter. Wayne County resident Dick Smith, inspired by Pocono winters,
composed the famous song “Winter Wonderland.”
